Back in good old Canada

We decided to give it a real push this morning and got up around 6am. The weather was working with us for a change and we left round 6:45am. The roads were quiet and a soft mist covered the top of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is definitely one of the best areas to ride in and the scenery is magnificant. There are warnings all over of moose crossings and several tours to go moose watching. It makes one wonder what to do when a giant moose jumps in front of your bike. (Denise: I was thinking that I would grasciously slid my bike under one's belly.) Of course she is thinking Cirque de Soleil terms of bike riding, and in reality I think it would be a disaster.

Once we crossed into Maine, the roads deteriorated and we were stopped countless times for road works. One thing that is definitely unique on bikes is that you get to chat with the guy/gal holding the stop/slow sign for the construction company, and we got some directions at the same time. Maine's scenery was also disappointing for the most part.

We made a stop at a small rest area where the water was so quiet that you could see the reflection on the river... and later we stopped at a small waterfall.
As soon as we went n Highway 9, the roads were wonderfull and the scenery improved dramatically. It was great ride from there on, with the sun shining and the cruising speed around 105km/hr. We arrived at the US - Canada border in record time and crossed into New Brunswick at St Stephens. It was smooth sailing into St George to tourist centre where the girl even called ahead and made reservations for us at the Cliper Shipp Motel, which is a fully catered room. Unfortunately they only had the double exec rooms left, so the cost was a little higher that we wanted to pay, but still inexpensive. Dinner was home made pork chops, and the view was to die for.

St George Tourist Centre was our first stop on the Canadian side of the border.

One of the views from our room's deck, which comes complete with barbecue...

Tomorrow we are leaving early and heading for Sain John to catch the ferry to Digby. We were able to make a reservation in advance, so now we just have to find the way there...

  1. Denise is so funny! Thinking that she needs to do anything special to not hit the moose ... as long as she does not hit a leg she is ok to just keep on going!
